Disrespectful/Flippant tone from a student: Oh man. Talk about a day-ruiner. This will do it. I've had to handle this a lot because I teach 6th grade: that lovely transition between Sweet Child I Love to Hellspawn Preteen of Satan Himself. If I broke down the numbers, they'd probably look like this:
- 1: Number of students I have taught who refused to speak to me in a normal tone. It was infuriating.
- 5,000,000,000: The number of times I've had to count to ten and take a breath. Not an exaggeration.
- 700 Billion: Times I've thought "If this were my child, I would beat him/her."
- 0: Number of days I've gone without being annoyed by a single child.
- Crap like, "I appreciate your goth aesthetic!" You're trying to sound impressive, but you come off as pretentious. And P.S. that's not the correct syntactical use of that word, so shut up.
- Also, stop referring to adjectives as nouns. Ex: "I like spending time with other creatives." STOP. They are creative PEOPLE. Not "creatives." You sound like a moron.
- Additionally, if everyone could stop saying "check your privilege," that'd be greeeeat. Let people be themselves. No, everyone in the world hasn't suffered great tragedy. That is a good thing! Don't dog people for not having experienced everything you have.
- Last one: "(BLANK) Shaming." When people disagree with something, they aren't necessarily "shaming" it. I've head feminine hygiene products referred to as "period shaming." No. It's just hygiene.
Being "cool" by not caring about anything: This is basically the Kardashian-people's goal in life. To sound as disinterested as possible in every single way. That's not cool. That just means you don't know how to appreciate things in life. Get excited about something! Anything!
Attention, everyone: Just be nicer!

Kids can be little shits. I was never just disrespectful to teachers when i was in school. It's all in how they are raised, so, parents can be shits too.
ReplyDeleteAny damn lingo nowadays is annoying. When people shorten words because its the thing to do now, or how all of their friends sound "cool" when they speak. Say full sentences and words!
Yea being so aloof can seem cool sometimes, like you are a free spirit and just go with the flow. But, a free spirit doesnt act like they are too good for anything, they are just free...and spirited. haha! People just don't care about stuff that has nothing to do with THEM or THEIR problems.
Nice Office Space photo. hahhaha!
